Flying Delta Gluten Free
EDIT: I recently noticed a Gluten Free check box on the online reservation tool for Delta.
Flying Gluten Free on Delta Airlines does not have many options for snacks. You will be lucky if you can get the peanuts or the raisin snack. Be sure to read the labels. I wouldn’t think that peanuts would cause a reaction but Hoodies brand plain peanuts from Costco did. (I returned them and got my money back.)
Delta does have gluten free meal option available on request up to 24 hours in advance, but no later than 12 hours prior to take-off. I would rather have this labeled on my ticket reservation.
Here’s why. I was on a flight where we were asked to not open anything with nuts because somebody flying had a peanut allergy. So my gluten free food we brought along all had nut somewhere in the ingredient listings. Nuts travel well. Just look at the person sitting next to you next time you fly.
If this was taken care of during the standard flight restructuring and seat consolidation, I wouldn’t have had to starve for seven hours. Thanks Delta. People who live with allergies and food intolerances haven’t done anything to get these conditions other than perhaps eat food manufactured for long shelf life and low cost.
If you can, always buy food with the most pronounceable least number of ingredients.
