Tooting my own horn

I didn’t expect to see this today. Pairing the keywords Disney and Gluten comes up with this site misspellings and all.

For one of my Disney dining plan sacks I had a gluten free caramel apple in Disney’s Magic Kingdom near Splash Mountain.

Get the most of your Disney Photopass CDROM – Florida

I have a few suggestions for you to get the most out of a Disney Photopass CDROM.

1. Only sign in to http://www.disneysphotopass.com/ with one account. Add your numerous photopass cards to this one account only. Once a card is on an account it cannot be moved to another account and accounts cannot be combined.

2. Dress up and visit Downtown Disney. Find Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique. Line up at the photo booth next to this boutique. This spot turns out photo studio style pictures. We got an awesome photographer when we walked up and we have several good pictures from here.

3. Don’t forget you only get 30 days to make your purchase.

4. Make use of the email to a friend feature so your friends and family can see the fun you are having.

Disney’s Photopass Florida Parks

Last year my wife decided to buy a Photopass picture with the group of us in front of the ‘tree of life’ in Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Unfortunately she didn’t consult me on which image I wanted. I would have preferred that the image purchased would have had everybody’s eyes open, namely my own. So for the last year I had to look at this picture without me looking back at myself.

I decided that enough was enough. I prepurchased the Photopass CDROM, preempting most of the photo purchases that she would have made, once again, with my eyes shut.

So now we have this grueling photo schedule. Disney had photographers located at each of the four theme parks, as well as at the water parks. I was determined that we know where these photographers are located and their names, schedules, and skill level so that we could get my moneys worth.

Amongst our party we ended up with 300 photos by Disney photographers. After adding borders and cropping I had over 600 photos. I just hope I can find one where my eyes were open.

The Disney Dining Plan – Gluten Free in Style

Yes, this item was purchased on the Disney Dining plan.
And No, it was not a one of the meals. It was a snack.

Our Disney Dining Plan consisted of a concession stand meal, a dining room meal and a snack per person, per day. The concession stand meal had a drink and dessert included with the entree. The dining room meal consisted of an appetizer, entree, drink, and dessert.

Gluten Free Dining is difficult on any vacation.

Except for a few flub ups Disney does a good job accommodating food allergies and intollerances. Keep tuned in for my list of must visits as well as those to stay away from.

Disney Quest Restaurant Or Wolfgang Pucks on the Disney Dining Plan

To be honest the Wolfgang Pucks annex across the walkway has not let go of me. I went there once and haven’t stopped to try the Disney Quest Disney Dining Plan food option. If you find the right counter staff when the regular restaurant is open a wonderful flour-less chocolate gluten free desert may be available.

Disney’s 50’s Prime Time Cafe Gluten Free Chicken Pot Pie

0906071121.jpg

So here is a meal that sounded better in description then delivery. It was described as a gluten free chicken pot pie. The ’soup’ portion was good.

Before I know I was gluten intolerant I had some great chicken pot pies. The only thing that makes a chicken pot pie good is the crust. A decent chicken pot pie requires a crust that is flaky on one side and on the other side a soft and even sticky mixture with the broth of the soup backed right in delivering a tasty symphony.

Now that I am eating gluten free, I have not found anything nearing my crust requirement. As delivered this meal from Disney’s 50’s Prime Time Cafe at MGM Studios Theme park was a bowl of soup and a plate of dry tapioca rolls.

I have given the chef recipe suggestions to adjust the prepackaged tapioca rolls to get closer to a bearable chicken pot pie. Mainly, if he was stuck using the energy brand tapioca rolls, slice thin, toast or fry and let some broth soak in.

As it stands the meal should be called chicken soup with peas. With that title, the meal was a great chicken soup with peas. It was disappointing as chicken pot pie as it clearly was not.

I also had a milkshake and hot fudge sundae at this meal. I asked my server to make sure that the station was clean when making the milkshake because I cannot have malt. She also assured me that the hot fudge didn’t have any gluten in it. I should have talked with the chef about these items too. Talking with server staff is not good enough. I still have to educate chefs every time I go out.

Long story short this was the Disney restaurant that ended up getting me gluten sick. I have had several meals here at this restaurant that tasted great and were served with gluten free perfection. I had close calls this trip at Epcot’s Morocco as well as Jiko’s at the Animal Kingdom lodge, which thank goodness were caught before I ate them.

This was a tasty gluten free shrimp cocktail at Disney’s Prime Time Cafe, MGM Studios. The cocktail sauce had gluten in it, so the chef gave me horse radish sauce.

Hidden Mickey, Disney’s Animal Kingdom

There were a few of these birdhouses in the Disney’s Animal Kingdom. This one was seen in the kids show / character meet and greet area. Actually I would have missed it, but I saw somebody taking a picture of it.
